Posted Under: better lawn

My neighbors on both sides and in the back dont really care for their lawn and have mad danelions. I bought this home last year and went through it last year. I spend $25 a pop on weed and feed to care for my own lawn, and Im fighting dandelions all summer, its driving me crazy! By the end of the season I have probably spent $100-200 on my stupid lawn.
Any ideas? I know theres not much I can do.
Ive contemplated spraying their lawns with veggie killer in the middle of the night:)

hmm, i would say go for it!! spray their lawns too. dandilions are nothing to call the police over, they will do nothing; however, if they are not cutting their grass-there are laws about that. There is really nothing u could do about it.

That is a really good ethical dilemma. I am going to ask my husband the Titan Yard and Garden God, and get back to you. He is better than Dear Abbie and wiser than Dr. Phil on any yard related question. brb.

ok, I consulted the Lawn Oracle. Basically, you already have all his ideas here from other people:
1. If you live in a community with community standards like Deed Restrictions, sic the Yard Police on them. No doubt it will take repeated efforts, but eventually they should cave and start doing more.

2. If no Deed Restrictions, it’s a lot harder. It is a sad fact that some people are just trashy and have no pride of ownership or notion of curb appeal, but the woman who suggested TruGreen Chemlawn is on the right track to save YOU time and money. That is an excellent suggestion. For years when my husband was out of the country on business, I had that service and we truly had a “bare-foot” lawn for about $30.00/month. Plus it is guaranteed so if any weeds show up between treatments, they come out for free.

3. Put up signs of shame on your lawn pointing at theirs “If I were a Lazy piece of dung, My lawn would look like this, too” etc. haha

4.sneak out at night and spray that stuff that kills even lichen on their lawns. You know, it has a half-life of 400 years, or whatever.

5. put up fences, tall hedges, rows of cypress trees.

Good luck. Maybe you should move while your house is looking so fine!! Remember my husband and have faith–others like you are out there. Others who care.

You could always use a flamethrower on their lawns to kill the weeds.

contact your city to complain against the neighbours. they will be advised to do something about their weeds. if they do not, keep complaining. eventually the city will get fed up and possibly de weed their lawns and bill them for it…

call a lawn service that knows what to do

We have the same problem. We have a lawn service called trugreen come out and spray for weeds every 6 weeks. If I see any weeds before then I can call them and they will come out sooner for free and spray them. I have a small yard and they charge me $35 every time they spray except for the times i call them to spray before the 6 weeks is up.

Ask them politely and possibly research cheaper ways of getting the weeds out. When you do, also tell them what you use and even offer to spray their lawn occasionally for them if they buy the product. Show them your lawn and tell them that all of you would have great, presentable lawns if they sprayed it.

LOL, good question…unfortunately there is nothing you can do. My neighbors are horrible. They have all this junk in their backyard, a half torn down fence, dogs who poop all over the place. We tried calling the township because we figured that they were violating some ordinance (dragging down property values) but the township told us that unless it presents a health risk, there was nothing we could do. You could try talking to them, but really, if they don’t care there is nothing you can do. Maybe put a fence up so you don’t have to look at it?

Let it go, man. Nothing is worth that kind of aggravation and expense. Have you given any thought to all the chemicals and poisons you’re putting into the ground? Go out and pick the dandelions if you don’t want to see them anymore. Besides being cheaper than trying to kill them with poison, all the bending will be good exercise for you! Good luck! ;)

i don’t know, they sound like crappy neighbors already and if you confront them they may become even more crappy….. you should consider pitching a by-law against that sort of thing it really brings down the value of your property and other neighbors around you, you should see if the neighbors on their other sides feel the same way and if so maybe a petetion ????

Mowing your lawn will cut the dandilions at no cost. Or try making dandylion wine, which isn’t too bad. And lighten up on your neighbors – I doubt they planted the weeds intentionally.

How well do you know/like your neighbors?Try this:Tell your neighbors that you will treat their lawns with the weed and feed or just tell them you will furnish it for them.Explain that you work hard for your lawn to look nice and you’d like to kill two birds with one stone by eliminating the problem.Nobody should object to a free lawn treatment.Maybe if they see how good it looks, they will take a little pride in the appearance of their own property.

You said it yourself, “stupid lawn”. Relax. If the biggest thing you have to worry about in your life is a few dandelions in your yard I would say you are in a pretty good place in life.

DONT SPRAY THEIR LAWNS OR U WILL BE THE ONE IN TROUBLE
GET A WEED KILLER AND SPRAY ALL ROUND YOUR FENCE LINE
AND GO TO YOUR LOCAL COUNCIL AND GET THEM TO GO SEE THE NEIGHBOURS

Dude, they’re only Dandilions. Yeah, they’re this big splotch of yellow in the middle of what you were planning on keeping as nice green grass, but if they’re coming up like crazy in all these different lawns, then it’s obviously a neighborhood thing. Get used to them. I know they’re weeds, but they kinda look like flowers….
